OSB board (EN 300)

OSB (oriented strand board) is one of the most commonly used structural panels in the construction industry. It can be used for both load-bearing and bracing purposes, and is manufactured in various types depending on the intended application.

Selection of types (EN 300 classification)

According to the EN 300 standard, OSB types differ in terms of their intended use:

  • OSB/2: load-bearing applications in dry environments
  • OSB/3: load-bearing applications in more humid environments
  • OSB/4: heavy-duty load-bearing applications in more humid environments

Outdoor use on a permanent basis is only recommended with appropriate structural protection (cladding, covering), as OSB is not, by its nature, a ‘free-standing’ outdoor cladding material.

Applications

Common uses: wall and roof bracing, subfloors, substrate layers for cladding, packaging, and basic applications in the upholstery and furniture industries.
